ANEME joins the campaign to prevent occupational risks in the use of machines and work equipment. This campaign is based on the principle that occupational safety and health represents an area of major importance because, on the one hand, it creates a minimum level of protection for the safety of workers, on the other, it contributes to free and fair market competition internal.

The use of machinery and work equipment which is not in compliance with existing legislation is a common problem in Europe, in particular in Portugal, which is recognized by the European Commission.

Despite recent developments in the area of prevention, accidents at work are still a matter of irrefutable and unequivocal relevance in Portugal.

In this context, based on statistics from the Strategy and Planning Office (GEP), the accidents that occurred during the use of machinery and work equipment constituted the first cause of fatal work accident in Portugal in 2012, accounting for about half of all fatal work-related accidents.
